I believe that because women have a womb, we are mandated to be able to do five things at once. Men? Well, I will just say the word; MONO-thought; one thing at a time. So while women are packing up lunches, feeding the dog, emptying the trash and ironing our pants, our ‘personal self’ gets lost. More often than not, women do not put themselves first. We don’t mean to be last or way behind the others in our lives, it happens by accident. We are a homemaker, a wife/partner, a mom, a bread winner... After a day of the ‘have to do’ lists, it’s easy to find yourself at the bottom of the priority list. How do we get there and to see it happening?
It seems we wake up and we are pretty far down in the pit. We find ourselves overweight and pretty unhappy. It is when we are at our lowest, when things are really bad, that we say, 'that's it!' And we aren’t nice about it! Making a commitment to put ourselves ahead of the pack and get healthy, takes a shift in demands. Making yourself a priority is hard to do. You need a plan, a concrete plan.
Begin to figure out what you want to do? Lose weight is usually most common. That entails a good food and exercise program. Get a pad and write out your goals. What do you want to eat? What exercise can you fit into your schedule? What days and times will work for you? I recommend doing your exercise first thing in the morning or right after work... DO NOT GO HOME! Out the office door you go and right to the gym or walking path! Be consistent and when your motivation wanes, it’s time to revamp your goals.
